18th Prof G. Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture

The 18th Prof G. Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture shall be delivered by Prof. Ram G. Takwale, former Vice Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) on 2nd July 2013.


The topic of the Lecture is “Reconstructing Higher Education: Approaches to new Education for social transforming in a globally connected society”.


The lecture is being organized by IGNOU at its Convention Centre, Maidan Garhi, Headquarters.


The presidential address shall be delivered by Prof M. Aslam, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU.


The programme will be telecast live on Gyan Darshan, Educational TV Channel of India. The live webcast will be available on www.ignou.ac.in .


Professor Ram G. Takwale was Vice Chancellor of Pune University, Pune (1978-84) for two terms. Later he become the founder Vice Chancellor of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Nashik(1989-95). He became the Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi(1995-98). He was also the Chairman of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Banglore (2003-06).


Professor G. Ram Reddy was the harbinger of the idea of the open university in India. He was the founding Vice Chancellor of India’s first Open University, the Andhra Pradesh Open University (APOU), and the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).


He held many other important positions in the academic world viz Vice Chancellor of Osmania University for two terms, Vice President of Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Chairman of the University Grants Commission and Chairman of the Indian Council of Social Science Research. The COL International Council of Distance Education (ICDE) Award for Excellence conferred on Prof. Ram Reddy is an eloquent testimony to the International recognition of his vision and contribution.
